The Night of the Living Bed

무난한 책. 확실히 chapter book 보다는 모르는 표현이 적어 하루에 끝내기에 적당하다. 1시간~ 2시간짜리 공부를 위한 책. 

표현

They rolled off the bed.

 

When they caught up to it, they jumped on the back. The bed rolled faster.

 

It whizzed out the back of the barn and zoomed down the hill. It shot up another hill and rolled into town.

*whiz 질주하다. = move fast

 

They walked to the next house.

 

You run along home. And get into some dry clothes.

(구식 표현: 아이들에게 go away라고 할 때 씀) 떠나가다. 출발하다.

그리고 마른 옷들을 입어라.

 

It’s about time! Drop me off at Fifth Street.
그러면 그렇지?

 

, rapping the bed with her cane. “Get this bus moving!”

*rap: 가볍고 재빨리 ~을 두드리다. 탕탕 두드리다.

 

The bed went faster and faster. It roared out of town. It plowed through a pumpkin patch and bounced into the farmer’s yard. The old lady stepped off the bed. 침대는 마을 밖으로 큰 소리를 내며 움직였다. 침대는 ~를 헤치고 나아갔다. 그리고 농부의 마당으로 튀듯이 움직였다.

*roar 큰 소리내며 움직이다.

 

She flopped onto the bed. = fall or drop heavily
