Mr Trim and Miss Jumble

 

정교사와 임시 교사의 사랑이야기이다. Mr Trim은 매우 깔끔한 정교사이다. 그는 스스로를 말끔하게 꾸밀 뿐만 아니라 아이들에게도 깔끔하게 행동할 것은 독려한다. 그러던 어느날, 그는 아파서 1주일 정도를 출근하지 못한다. 그래서 매우 지저분한 Miss Jumble이 임시교사로 아이들을 돌본다. 그녀의 겉모습이 지저분한 만큼, 아이들의 겉모습도 지저분하게 변한다. 더욱이 Mr Trim이 학교로 돌아보자 그가 아끼던 햄스터 Quentin은 사라져 있었다. Mr Trim은 이 사실에 경악하지만 다행히도 햄스터는  Miss Jumble의 머리카락 속에서 나온다. 그리고 그 순간 두 명의 선생님은 얼굴이 붉어지고 심장이 두근거리며 사랑에 빠진다.

One day Mr. Trim woke up feeling ill. It was nothing serious – just a bubbly nose and a fuzzy head – but his doctor ordered him to stay in bed.

• Bubbly: 거품이 이는

• Fuzzy: not clear 정신이 몽롱한, 생각 등이 명확하지 않은

• Moan 신음소리를 내다. 끙끙거리다.

• Groan 끙끙거리다. 불만을 표시하다.

• Whinge 우는 소리를 내다.

• Snivel 코를 훌쩍이다. 훌쩍이며 말하다.

 

 

A supply teacher came to look after his class.

• Trim: cut / reduce 다듬다, 정돈하다

• Jumble: mixture 뒤범벅, 혼란스러운 상태

• Wild hair: 자유분방한, 길들여 지지 않은

The cookery room 조리실

Monstrously messy 몹시, 대단히

 

There was no sign of Quentin. ~의 흔적이 없었다.

They couldn’t find Quentin anywhere. 어디에서도

“Don’t you think Jimbo is looking especially well fed today?”

 

The nice children gasped.

The not-so-nice children sniggered. 깔깔 웃다. 분별없고 불친절한 방식으로 누군가 또는 무엇을 비웃다.

Mr. Trim whimpered. 흐느껴 울다. 낑낑거리다.

All the not-so-nice children made being-sick noises.

 

When he saw Mr. Trim, he gave a happy squeak and leapt onto his shoulder.

 

And at that moment something else happened. Mr. Trim looked deep into Miss Jumble’s eyes.

뭔가 다른 일이 발생했다. / ~을 깊게 들여다 보다

 

They blushed. 얼굴이 빨개지다. 얼굴을 붉히다.

Their hearts fluttered. = move 두근거리다. 조마조마하다.

All the nice children went “Ah” again.
