The frog prince

공주는 자신이 가장 좋아하는 황금 공을 우물에 빠뜨린다. 이를 본 개구리는 자신이 도와주겠다고 한다. 공주는 공을 찾아주는 대가로 개구리를 자신의 친구로 받아들이겠다고 약속한다. 그러나 공주는 개구리가 자신의 친구가 될 수 있다고 생각하지 않았다. 그리고 개구리가 공을 찾아주자마자 자신의 성으로 뛰어간다. 

  다음날 공주와 왕이 저녁을 먹고 있는 때에 개구리가 성을 방문한다. 공주는 개구리를 보고 성문을 바로 닫아버린다. 그러나 왕은 공주에게 자초지종을 듣고 공주가 스스로한 약속을 지켜야 한다고 말한다. 결국 공주는 울며 겨자먹기로 개구리에게 약속한 바를 모두 이행한다. 그러던 중 개구리는 멋진 왕자로 변하고 그들은 결혼을 한다.

The next day, at supper time, the princess sat at the table with her father the king and all the people of the court.

It was her favorite plaything. She took it wherever she went.

She cried harder and harder.

 

What’s the matter, princess? Why are you making so much noise?

 

My golden ball has fallen into the well. That is why I am crying.

 

Stop crying. Maybe I can help you. What will you give me if I get your ball for you?

 

I will give you whatever you want. would you like my fine silk dress?

 

No, what would I do with your fine silk dress? Or your necklace of pearls?

 

What do you want then?

 

I want to be your friend and playmate. I want to sit with you at the supper table… if you promise to let me do these things, I will get your ball for you.

 

How can this nasty little frog come to the castle?

 

What are you afraid of, Daughter? Is there a giant at the door who wants to carry you off?

 

The princess told her father how the frog had found her ball. And she told him about her promise.

 

I promised I would let him be my friend and playmate. But I never thought he could come out of the well!

Everyone could see that she did not want to do it.

 

The frog liked his supper very much. But the princess could not eat a thing.

 

She took hold of him with two fingers, and she put him in a corner.

And they lived there happily forever after.

 

A golden coach with eight white horses drove up to the castle.
