(R) Frog in love

 

가볍게 읽는다면 이 책은 그냥 개구리와 오리의 사랑이야기이다. 하지만 조금더 철학척으로 읽는다면 자신과 조금은 다른 사람과 사랑에 빠진 사람에게 용기를 주는 책이다. 더욱이 작가의 표현이 참 순수하고 예쁘다는 생각을 했다. 소장하고 싶을 만큼 아름다운 책이다.

그는 일주일 내내 꿈 속에서 걸어 다녔다.

 

Hello, Frog. You don’t look very well. What’s the matter with you?

 

There’s something going thump-thump inside me.

… Mine sometimes thumps faster than usual.

It goes one-two, one-two, one-two.

심장의 두근거림을 잘 표현했다고 생각했다. 이 문장을 읽으면서 나 또한 가끔 내 심장의 쿵쾅거림을 느끼기 때문이다.

 

Well, that’s good news. Who are you in love with? 네가 사랑에 빠진 사람이 누구야?

 

A frog can’t be in love with a duck. You’re green and she’s white.

But Frog didn’t let that bother him.

사람과 사람이 사랑하는 데 있어서 가끔은 사회적인 장애물이 있는 것 같기도 하다. 그리고 Piglet은 그런 사람들의 고정 관념을 잘 나타내준다고 생각했다. 하지만, 가끔 정말 사람에 빠진 사람들은 그런 것들을 개의치 않기도 한다. 참 멋진 표현이라고 생각했다. 그런 고정 관념이 자신을 방해하지 못하게 하는 것 말이다.

사랑하는 사람에게로 가는, 사랑의 두근거림을 앉고 가는 모습을 잘 표현.

 

Frog just couldn’t pluck up the courage to speak.

* pluck up the courage: 무섭고 걱정되지만, 어떤 것을 하기 위해 용기를 내다.

 

How could he show Duck he loved her?

“I must do something nobody else can do,” he decided.

“I must break the world high jump record! Dear Duck will be very surprised, and then she’ll loved me back.”

 

Frog started training at once. He practiced the high jump for days on end.

What can be the matter with Frog?

Duck, who happened to be passing at the time, came hurrying up to help him.

His heart was going thump-thump faster than ever, and his face turned deep green.
