(R) Amazing aeroplanes

비행기를 타본 아이들에게 한번쯤 읽히고 싶은 책이다. 비행기를 탑승하는 과정에서 이륙하고 내리를 과정을 명쾌하게 풀어놓은 책이다. 어휘가 쉬우면서도 표현이 고급스러운 책이었다. 

이 책을 통해서 배울 수 있는 비행기 관련 어휘

 

·         Control tower : 이 곳에서는 air traffic controller(항공 교통 관리자)가 비행기들에게 direct하고 조종사들에게 언제 이륙하고 착륙할지를 알려준다. 

·         flight deck: 조종사와 co-pilot이 있는 곳

·         hold: 조종실 아래에 있는 비행기의 짐칸. 무거은 수화물/짐이 이곳에 저장된다.

 

·         wing: 비행기의 날개는 날개를 가볍게 하기 위해 안이 비어있다. 그리고 모양을 매끈하게 하여 공기가 쉽게 지나갈 수 있게 설계되었다.

·          wheel: 비행기가 항공에 있을 때, 비행기의 바퀴들은 접힌다. 

·         jet engine: 날개 아래쪽에 붙어 있는 것. 비행기를 앞으로 밀기 위하여 blow out air and gas한다. - the gas is made by burning fuel

·         terminal: 승객들이 비행기를 탈 수 있는 공항에 있는 건물. 

 

표현

The ground crew weigh your baggage and load it in the hold.

* ground crew: 공항에서 비행기가 지상에 있을 때 비행기를 관리하는 사람

 

And then you take the walkway to the plane, when you are told.

* walkway: 통로 a passage or path

 

The flight deck’s where the captain and co-pilot do their jobs. They both know how to fly the plane with all its dials and knobs.

* flight deck: 비행기의 조종실, the part of an aircraft where the pilot sits and where the controls are

*knob: 손잡이

 

They radio Control Tower to check the runway’s clear. They can’t take off unless it is, with other planes so near.

* radio: 무선으로 연락하다. Send a message to s1 by radio

* runway: 활주로

 

By intercom, the captain on the flight deck says hello.

*intercom: 내부 통화 장치 = intercommunication system

 

A plane is big and heavy, yet it climbs up really high. It zooms along the runway and soars into the sky.

 

When the plane moves fast enough, the air around’s so swift it pushes up beneath the wings and makes the whole plane lift.

 

Soon the plane is in the air, so now you’re on your flight. The cabin crew look after you and see that you’re all right.

* cabin crew: 객실 승무원 = in an aircraft, the ppl whose job it is to take care of the passengers

 

You sit with seat belt fastened, there’s a bumpy, rumbling sound – the wheels are making contact and the plane is on the ground!

* fastened: 단단히 고정시킨, 잠근

* a bumpy, rumbling sound 덜컹거리고 우르릉거리는 소리

 

At last the doors are opening. Then out you come with smiles.

 

You’ve flown for miles and miles.
