Mr. Gumpy’s Outing
외출(a short journey)
Mr. Gumpy owned a boat and his house was by a river. One day Mr. Gumpy went out in his boat.
“May we come with you?”
“Yes, if you don’t squabble.”
*Squabble
“Can I come along, Mr. Gumpy?”
“Yes, but don’t hop about.”
…
“Very well, but you’re not to chase the rabbit.”
“Will you take me with you?”
“Yes, but don’t tease the cat.”
*tease 괴롭히다
“May I come, plz, Mr. Gumpy?”
“Very well, but don’t much about.”
*muck about: 더럽히다 behave in a silly way, or to treat s1 or sth in a careless way
“Have you a place for me?”
“Yes, but don’t keep bleating.”
“Can we come too?”
“Yes, but don’t flap.”
“Can you make room for me?”
“Yes, if you don’t trample about.”
“May I join you, Mr. Gumpy?”
“Very well, but don’t kick.”
