Listen up: Alexander Graham Bell's Talking Machine

역사적인 사실을 이야기로 만든 책은 동화책 보다 확실히 덜 재미있다. 그러나 한 위인의 삶과 그의 노력을 조금이나마 엿볼 수 있다는 점에서 유익하다. 더욱이 이 책을 읽으면서 이전에는 투박한 전화기에도 사람들이 매우 놀랐는데, 지금 나는 화상통화가 익숙한 세상에 살고 있으니 새삼 사람들의 발명이 대단하다는 생각을 했다. 그리고 전화기를 발명하기까지의 Alexander Graham의 소리에 대한 관심, 끊임없는 노력, 그리고 발명품을 알리는 과정이 인상 깊었다. 내가 정말로 원하는 일이 있다면, 설령 많은 사람이 주목하지 않더라도 그 열정에 미쳐 끊임없이 노력하고 이를 알리려는 노력이 중요할 것 같다. 그리고 그러한 노력과 ‘운’이 만났을 때 역사를 바꿀 수 있을 것이다.
