나의 육체를 빠져나가는 내용이라니, 분명 신선했다. 나 또한 초등학생 때는 이런 내용을 참 좋아했던것 같다. 그러나 성인이 되어서 읽기에는 조금 식상했다. 그럼에도 이런 책을 통해서 식상한 내용을 참신하게 쓰는 작가의 눈에 감탄하고, 허구 속에 현실에 대한 교훈이 담겨 있는 게 좋다. 예를 들면 유체이탈한 아이들이 원래로 돌아가는 법을 몰라서 선생님 한 명을 찾아간다. 그리고 그녀에게 원래대로 돌아가는 법을 가르쳐 달라고 하자 그녀는 안된다고 하며 다음과 같이 말한다. 

 "If I tell you, you won’t learn anything. If you figure it out for yourself, you will." p.38

교육학을 배우면서 특히 최근에 와서는 학생 스스로 배우는 것에 매우 무게를 둔다는 걸 알았다. 어쨌거나 배울것이 넘쳐나는 세상 아닌가. 급변하는 세상에서 자신이 원하는 바를 달성하기 위해서는 누군가에게 전수받은 지식보다는 스스로 특정 개념을 만들어 가는 과정이 중요한 세상이다. 아이들은 책 속의 이 내용을 그냥 흘려 보내겠지만 나에겐 참 크게 다가왔다.
